Almost one million more people will be benefit from the NHS shingles vaccine
19/07/2023
The NHS announced that there will be an expansion of the Shingrix vaccine eligibility, with almost a million additional people set to benefit from September.
Previously available only to those over 70, individuals over 50 who are severely immunosuppressed will now be eligible for two doses of the vaccine. From 1 September 2023, those who are turning 65 and 70-year-olds will also become eligible after their birthday, and the age range will be further extended to include those aged 60 and above by September 2028. The decision was based on recommendations from the Joint Committee of Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) that the vaccine should be extended to a wider group of people. The NHS urges eligible individuals not to delay and seize the opportunity to receive the vaccine during routine GP visits.
