Blog:Volunteering at Healthwatch
06/06/2019
Healthwatch is an organisation that champions people using health and social care services and takes up what they are saying and share that with people with the power to bring about change. Healthwatch allows for volunteers from all walks of life as long as they are willing. As a volunteer for healthwatch has allowed me to improve my confidence and my people skills as I have to communicate with different kinds of people across Barking and Dagenham. Having them fill out surveys and different activities getting to listen to what they have to say. There are opportunities to improve the way a person interacts with others.
Being a healthwatch volunteer has allowed me to get a different perspective on how I look at how health and social care services are run and offered, and how people in Barking and Dagenham think about their different health services they use and their opinion on GPS, caregivers and other health practitioners. One of the key things about volunteering for healthwatch is that it allows people to set the tone for how you get to work hours that you are most comfortable with. This is to allow volunteers to work to the best of their ability while at the same time being comfortable.
There also opportunities for students in colleges to volunteer and also get work experience. As healthwatch are very hands on in its approach which allows the students especially those who might have a future being engaged in different facets of the medical world to get how their future work environments look like? The students get an opportunity to also give their opinion on what they have observed.
Healthwatch allows volunteers who might not get opportunities from other places as long as one is willing and passionate to be engaged in matters of health and social care.
